20080508 SWTPc tidy up partial 20080508 Starting scans of BYTE 1977 after waiting 2 months for arrival from Canada 20080509 Rescans of Qume, Sage, Cromemco Documents 20080509 Cromix 20.63 8" disk 230 regerated 20080519 SAGE rescans 20080520 Cromemco Cromix 167, 30.79, 11.16, Informix, 20.63, 151, 167 multiple additions to the code directory i.e. http://maben.homeip.net/static/S100/cromemco/code/disks/index.html 20080520 multiple rescans including polymorphic, qume, sage 20080520 created wordplex directory ready for diskette images when I have time 20080601 Wrote a DOS batch file with UNIX find command to list files posted within last 31 days 20080604 Some MSDOS 2.11 manuals found 20080604 Still rescanning and cleaning up old PDF files 20080606 Batch file now repors 3 days files 20080610 Intensive rescanning image PDFs to text PDFs is being performed wholesale. Both CPU and labour intensive unfortunately 20080613 Extracting Cromemco Brochures from BYTE magazine 20080620 Further Cromemco brochures extraction from BYTE Magazine 20080622 Completed after over 20 hours of reassembing BYTE magazine archive. All pieces are now assembled from magazine scans from the years I currently have i.e. 1979 - 1984. it has taken me over a year of scanning to complete this part of the vintage preservation project. 20080701 A few more Cromemco updates 20080712 MicroSystems and Micro Systems Journal scans begin 200811 BYTE scans are completed 20090120 Tandy and Nascom and Various disk drive manufacturers rescanned 20090128 Due to nerve injury denying me more than 1.5 hours sleep per night there is now plenty of rescanning time. Now completed algolm, most of Digtial Research (DRI), Zilog, andon, sinclair, shugart, sd systems, aded new revox, research machine limited RML, processor technology, nascom, microbyte, MSI, 20090129 tidying up micrpro, microsoft, microstuf spelling correction, dragon data 20090211 Added several more Cromemco diskette images including CDOS 02.58 and Cromix on 5.25 inch diskette. See the catalog file for a complete inventory of course http://maben.homeip.net/static/S100/cromemco/code/disks/index.html 20090214 Further trolling thru disk catalog revealed some imaging ommisions. Got upto diskette 620 this feb 14 midngiht 20090214 Unable to find a reliable imaging method. Results in the probalem of the sector 0 on track 0 being in Single Density format regardless of the format of the rest of the Cromemco floppy disks. Have evaluation / other software including imagedisk, cqcopy, teledisk, anadisk and neither 5.25 nor 8 inch disks can be read reliably on the IBM XT 286 PC to make images. To perform the tests we used blank and populated source CDOS and CROMIX diskettes made on one of 3, 8 inch or 5.25 inch drive, then moved to the target IBM system. Target IBM has a further 3 , 8 inch or 2x 5.25 inch drives. Testing between all like drives failed to find a working image make and recreate combination. Therefore the only way is to boot a working CDOS or Cromix system, transfer back the .ta or .tar image, and recreate the diskette on the Cromemco system itself. So this is still a single point of failure, because if you cant find a working initial boot diskette you are essentiallys screwed. 20090216 Cromix 172 XXU is imaged although onto 5.25" diskette only 20090217 Creating 8" non bootable but ftar restorable cromix 172 XXU diskettes , needs a boot disk also etc. Bootdisk will be made later since current XXU system refuses to recognise 8" diskette drives 20090218 Copied the one and only existing 8" bootable 172 XXU disk to another but cant yet test it Disk is now imaged also 20090319 All BYTE magazine access has been temporarily deleted because an infinite number of leachers are bombarding this webserver thus bringing it to a complete halt. If somebody can send me an apache 64, windows 64 binary for bandwidth control under windows then maybe I can reinstate this collection. 20090322 vector graphic rescanning tonight 20090324 more rescanning including tandon TM100, seagate, new CompuPro card manuals uncovered 20090328 Starting to integrate the Cromemco scans and documents made available by Malcolm McLean - a big thank you! CDOS diskettes need to be formatted on PC then have track 0 overwritten on CDOS, then copied from original. This results in a IMD.COM readable image which imagedisk then can save. All Byte upto 1989 is now scanned and filed. So in total over 40,000 pages were scanned and textified. 20100204 A big break due to being busy! Digitising some hardcore computing and hardcore computist early 1981 et al magazines. 20100307 More cromemco updates. The 68020 system disk was corrupted. So a 60MB replacement is now fitted and diskettes restored. Imaging of diskettes 650 - 660 is now in progress North star documentation is being text re-scanned and recategorised 20100401 Much activity in last days. I'm running thru entire Cromemco diskette collection and trying to identify inconsistencies. The idea is to have a .TA (cromemco TAR for images that include /dev entries) .TAR (unix format tar for diskettes without any /dev) and .IMD (dave dunfiled image format) for all diskettes. Dunfield format is in the way best (and also worst) since it's very easy to recreate a diskette based on the image but between difficult and impossible to create the image. Also has the obvious dependancy on a working old style MFM controller IBM PC to create the images on. The 3.5 inch diskettes are now taken to be the masters. This affects diskettes in ranges 801 to 999 predominantly since this is where Malcolms disk ranges are kept 20100412 Now all seems done. I have got right upto diskette 1000 in terms of IMD image disking. I can not take it easy. Well sort of! Unless of course you have some more Cromemco software for me to examine? 20120321 Only incremental updates e.g. 4DOS made and some more text creation.
